Origin
One of the founders of winemaking in Hunter Valley, McWilliams are integral to the region and a specialist in the local unoaked Semillon. Winemaker Phil Ryan has made this wine since 1978, and is only the third McWilliams estate winemaker since its founding in 1921.
Taste
Sherbety lemon, lime, passionfruit and hints of straw on the nose. Citrus-led on the palate too, with the classic honeysuckle note and waxy texture, adding roundness and body.
Enjoy
Enjoy in its citrussy youth, or cellar for a couple of years to allow mellow, honeyed notes to develop.

  • "Break a leg if you have to run to Majestic to get hold of this mature Hunter Semillon: light, yet toasty with fresh acidity and notes of citrus peel, herbs and lemon meringue. 93 points"

  • "When I first visited Australia in the Eighties, McWilliams Elizabeth Semillon was one of the country’s stand-out white wines. Still run by McWilliams, yet curiously left off this label, Elizabeth’s Cellar Release 2005 delivers fat, spicy, yet mouthwatering, lime and lemon meringue-pie fruit."

  • "With smoked salmon - There is simply no better white to sip with hot smoked salmon on gently browned fluffy white bread rolls smeared with creamed horseradish. Shot through with inflections of preserved lemons and hay, this unoaked sémillon takes on a toasty note as it ages that weaves around the smoky fish. Superb, at an extraordinary price."
