excellent wine for the price
The potent Viognier grape can easily be overripe and overly extracted, producing wines with eye watering alcohol levels, and flavours that are flabby, out of balance or bitter.
However, this excellent value example from a very relaible producer, (this review is for the 2011 with 13.5% alc) is really well balanced, with aromatic floral, apricot and peach notes, a fullish body, but also good acidity and freshness, and above all, great balance. Some lees ageing also gives a lovely yeasty, nutty richness to the finish. Hard to find better for the price.
