Grape

Tempranillo

Origin
Coming from a selection of vineyards between 15 and 25 years of age this wine spends 50% French and 50% American oak for 12 months prior to bottling. The Tempranillo clones are old and pure here, known as Tinto Fino.
Taste
Real intensity on the palate, with layers of concentrated blackberry, toasted herbs, smoke and vanilla. Full-bodied and a long length, the remarkably integrated, ripe tannins give a firm structure.
Enjoy
Enjoy now if you like modern interpretations of Tempranillo, or age over the following 6-8 years to soften the fruit and spices.

    confused

With so many good ratings, I had to open a second bottle to be sure that I disagreed with them so strongly. To me it seemed past its best, showing just a dominant wood but little fruit.

This wine is so perfect it doesn't even need to breathe. We have served it at and brought it to dinner parties and it is a crowd pleaser every time. It's the perfect wine for cold winter evenings with a hearty tomato-based pasta dish, garnished with shavings of your favorite hard, earthy cheese.

    Outstanding

This was absolutely outstanding. I served this with dinner on New Years Eve and it made up for some ropey Prosecco. Rich, complex and worryingly easy to drink, great bottle at the 25% off price.

    Total recommend.

Plum? Cherry? Blackberry? perhaps a tiny hint of the scent of Licorice Imps? Smooth on the palate with a long finish. Previous comments justified! (Recommended to me by a resident aficionado of Spain)

  • A Firm Favourite

"This wine is my personal favourite Spanish Wine across the board and to be fair to all the great Spanish producers, I've been lucky enough to taste a good few in my time at Majestic. Ribera del Duero the region it'self carries a lot of expectation of quality and finesse. This wine turns all that expectation into belief with an ease and a kind of pride that you would expect. Full of Mocha, dark fruit, figs, plums and a hint of very dark South American coca combined with a smooth and silky integration of tannin from a clever and perfectly timed oak aging. That aging can only be achieved by the winemakers skill of American and French oak barrel blending pure genius. Brilliant !! Brilliant !! food matches a hearty meaty Tapas just like the kind we had in Galicia :)) I love it"

  • "Another stunning wine from Ribera del Duero, one of my favourite regions of Spain, which is gaining cult status and usually has prices to match. This fine example is aged in both French and American oak for 12 months and offers a beautiful nose of dark fruits, smoke and pencil shavings. The palate is a real mouthful, rich and powerful yet beautifully balanced with a silky smooth texture. At this price, it offers great value and has the potential to age, if you can bring yourself to do such a thing. Personally, I don't think I could leave it alone... "

Press Reviews

  • "100% Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) aged in a 50/50 blend of French and American oak, this has a savoury, bold, quite structural appeal with black, edgy fruit and just glimpses of something earthy and savoury in the nose. The palate doesn’t have huge weight or texture, but there’s a juiciness and a spicy, creamy infill of oak that adds a big, plush finish. Impressive in the end, with lots of power and muscularity at its core. Buy any two Spanish wines save 25% until end October, so £12.74 equivalent. Score: 90/100 "
