This Gran Reserva offers superb value for money, with many of the grapes coming from a top estate in the Rioja Alta region. Aged for 24 months in American oak and 4 years in bottle makes this multidimensional wine a fantastic proposition.
Taste
Dark plum fruit with a touch of spicy vanilla on the nose lead to a palate is mature yet fresh with vanilla, toasty notes adding complexity. The mouthfeel is full with fine tannins and real structure.
Enjoy
Still with plenty of life and vivacity, this wine is capable of a further 5 years' ageing but is a cracking rich style now.

    Rubbish; ghastly! Don’t even think of buying it until I’ve got down to Majestic and stocked up on a few dozen cases myself!

    Smooth

    Fruity,Smooth and not spoilt by the sulphites.Can be drunk on its own or with robust dishes. Doesn't suffer from the harsh tanins characterised by most french wines . You have to pay 2-3 times as much for a french wine with this smoothness. Have drunk two bottles and immediately ordered more

    Bargain

    This is as good a Rioja as you'll find for the money. It's a big earthy elegant wine, rich in fruit yet subtly refreshing. For an 8 year old Rioja at £7.50 a bottle this is too good to miss, that's less than a quid a year.

  • "The 2002 Gran Vendema Gran Reserva Rioja is ruby red in colour with a nose of ripe red berry fruit, tobacco, cedar and hints of vanilla. The palate has a character of strawberries, blackberries and chocolate rounded off with soft velvety tannins. The subtle flavours and soft tannins make it an ideal partner to spring lamb."
