Origin
Terraced plantings on the clay and alluvial soils at the foot of the Obarenes mountains at the Western edge of Rioja Alta form the basis for Prado Enea Gran Reserva. The wine spends 6 months in vat, 36 months in small barrel and the same period in bottle before release.
Taste
An elegant, perfumed and complex nose with violet, wood-smoke, vanilla and red berry aromas. A rich, rounded palate of sweet red berries, wood spices and fresh acidity and a long and complex finish.
Enjoy
A wine that can age for up to 5 years or be enjoyed right now, particularly with game, grilled meats, soft cheeses.

Staff Reviews

  • Want an introduction to Fine Wine?

"Then this is it. One of 2 (the other is Kanonkop Paul Sauer) that I consistently recommend to people wanting to spend £20-30 on something special. Only made in better vintages, Prado Enea is released ready to drink and can age further, but why would you want to wait? Tremendous complexity of cherry, plum, herbs and vanilla unfolds in the glass and the palate gives more of the same, with soft tannin and a massively long finish. A slow-roasted shoulder, or rack, of lamb is the perfect foil for this indulgent treat."

Press Reviews

  • "A stalwart of Majestic's shelves, this has a lovely nose, with a slightly volatile character that is typically old-fashioned Rioja, but then the earthy, animal sweetness of fruit comes through, and the palate gives savoury, meaty flavours that retain plenty of bite and keen acidity. There’s punch and grip in the finish of this too, making it food friendly and suggesting a reasonably long life ahead. Score: 92/100 "
