    Lipsmacking, thirstquenching

I don't mean to belittle this wine but we opened it on a humid summer evening and from the first sip the whole evening lifted. Delicious: crisp, light, effortlessly fruity and ineffably dry. Very well served by a screw cap. And now it's run out, boo hoo ...

    Very good for the price.

Impressed by the 'assault' of floral aromas that hit the nose. Clean, crisp finish. Very good.

Staff Reviews

  • "A fascinating alternative to Sauvignon Blanc or Pinot Grigio. Riscal is a traditional Rioja house, but they make their white wine to the west in Rueda. By blending the local Verdejo grapes with Viura, they have created a clean, crisp wine brimming with aromatics. The nose has apple and lime along with orange blossom. There is just enough acidity to balance the citrus fruit flavours, and a soft finish of pear, stone fruit and anise."

Press Reviews

  • "Riscal pioneered the idea of modern style whites in Rueda and still makes some very creditable, aromatic wines such as this one in the region. It’s a blend of mostly Verdejo with a little Viura, with apricot and grapefruit flavours and crunchy acidity. Score: 87/100"

  • "Spanish white wines have come a long way in the past 30 years. Gone for good are the heavy, oxidised whites, replaced by fresher, fruitier fare. Marqués de Riscal was instrumental in effecting these changes, pioneering crisp, tangy whites from the local verdejo grape in the Rueda region to the northwest of Madrid. This is typical of the variety, even though it's blended with a little bit of viura: sappy and youthful with notes of grapefruit and wet stones."
