Grape

Albariño

Origin
Galicia's signature white wine, from the region's most famous producer. Made exclusively for Majestic, with some of the grapes possibly having been picked by Majestic's own staff, as a small number go to Galicia each year to help with the harvest.
Taste
A light, fresh and youthful wine, with a zesty and well defined citrus backbone, overlayed with subtle hints of stone fruits and nectar. Crisp and refreshing, yet rounded and enduring on the finish.
Enjoy
Drink with mussels and other shellfish, or all simple fish dishes such as grilled sardines.

    Albarino, schmalbarino

Yeah, so the great upcoming grape of Iberia done well but with no great flair. You will not frighten the horses with this one and the maker has a reputation for quality and consistency. But, yawn. Look for a more quirky example of this interesting grape.

    good value Spanish white

Nice citric acid and tropical fruits on the palate. Pleasant nose. Good value at less than £7:00 a bottle.

A Great Value Spanish White Wine

This is probably the best white Spanish wine at a price we can all afford

My advice would be to spend the extra £2 and by the Martin Codax. I have not tasted them side by side but this was a bit dissapointing. The original Martin Codax does everything so much better.

Press Reviews

  • A lovely Spanish white (2011 Vintage)

"Here’s a lovely Spanish white bursting with zippy citrus and pear fruit and some zesty grapefruit bite. It’s lively enough to pair with chilli crab (Jamie Goode, Sunday Express, 28th October 2012)"

  • A good one (2011)

"Martin Códax is one of Spain's most consistent producers from vintage to vintage, but from what I've tasted the 2011 vintage in this part of Galicia was a good one lending this subtly peachy white extra vim and zest. (David Williams, The Observer, 16th September 2012)"
