Grape

Godello

Origin
Valdeorras is an appellation in an inland area of Galicia in northern Spain, which has become known for its quality white wines from the little-known Godello grape, which does very well in the region's moderate maritime climate and rocky slate soils.
Taste
A youthful, green-tinged straw yellow wine, with a clean nose of grassy herbaceousness, and pear and pineapple fruit. Light in weight, yet with a palate-coating sense of texture.
Enjoy
Perfect with Spain's simple fish tapas dishes, such as grilled sardines, octopus or calamares.

Very nice indeed and good value.

Fruity and refreshing whilst nice and dry. Would go well with seafood.

    Benchmark Godello

Perfect balance of lemon fruit and acidity. Great with seafood or as an aperitif.People who want something more sophisticated than 'in your face' sauvignon blanc will enjoy this wine. Great value at the £8 offer price.

  • Scented like a Golden Delicious apple (2010 Vintage)

"I’ve just bought six bottles of this lovely wine. Scented like a Golden Delicious apple, with bags of moreish and pinging flavours, I’ll be sipping it for aperitifs and fish-themed feasts. Join me! (Olly Smith, The Mail on Sunday, 16th September 2012)"

  • A mouthwateringly fresh, wheaty nose (2010 Vintage)

"A mouthwateringly fresh, wheaty nose – like a wheat field blowing in the breeze – sweet lemon, apple and apricot fruit, a bit of ballast in the middle and a long finish. Yet again, we find ourselves admiring the Godello grape. Rating: 90/100 (The Wine Gang, www.thewinegang.com, July 2012)"

  • Orchard fruit and graceful acidity (2010 Vintage)

"Rather less well-known but easily on a par in terms of quality with albarino, are wines made from the godello grape in Galicia's Valdeorras region, of which this bottle, with its orchard fruit and graceful acidity, is a great example. (David Williams, The Observer, 17th June 2012)"

  • Cool but firm and with obvious inherent nobility (2010 Vintage)

"Gosh this grape is good. One has the impression this is far from their best bottling but it still knocks spots of Mâconnais whites at the same price. Cool but firm and with obvious inherent nobility. A white answer to Aglianico?! (Jancis Robinson, JancisRobinson.com, 25th May 2012)"
