Grape

Arneis

Origin
Roero is from the sandy hills in Piedmont in northwest Italy. A significant amount of the Arneis grape is grown here. Here is where Marco Porello's estate is located; he is a young winemaker who has an important following in Italy where most of his wine is sold.
Taste
Aromas of blossom and citrus. It is refreshing with balanced acidity and flavours of lime, grapefruit and green apples. It is beautifully balanced and has an elegant mineral finish.
Enjoy
The lightness and refreshing acidity make it an ideal wine to drink on its own but also a great fish and seafood match.

    What a great find

Looks like this grape was saved from extinction not so long ago and we should all be grateful for that. Opened mine for friends and dinner on Xmas Eve and loved every sip of it. Floral, rich ripe apples and a huge fluffy body to pack in all the other flavours. This wine coped easily with quite a spicy Jambalaya and supplemented it well. At £8.49 (2 bottles) this is real value for money and I have one left to drink!

    Understated quality

Typically neutral in flavour with good acidity, a good match with shellfish.Nothing wrong with this wine but not offering much over a decent Verdicchio from say Monte Schiavo which is typically 25% cheaper, alternatively the Montenovo Godello is much more exciting at a similar price.

    A great discovery

A lovely tipple. I was very fond of Sistina Pecorino, which Majestic recently discontinued - so opted for a couple bottles of this. Matches the description exactly. highly recommend.

    Simple style, effective result

It has pure fruit and a refreshing taste, its very drinkable and edges out a lot of other wines at the same price

    Lovely distinctive fruity white

I'm usually much more of a red wine drinker, but this variety was recommended to me recently, and having given it a try, i can see why. This has a subtle nose of orchard fruit with floral notes. On the palate it is medium bodied, full of soft fruit, flavours of apple and comice pear, with just enough low to medium citrus acidity to make it food friendly, plenty of mineral notes giving a slight spritz, and a refreshing finish. It is fruit driven, but not heavy and not oaked, so this is pure and vibrant and meant for drinking young and fresh. I had some with Thai red chicken curry and it was an excellent match.

  • "Quite a rich tang to this wine with a pleasing exotic streak along with fresh citrus refreshment. Good with a plate of fritto misto or as an aperitif in the garden. Score: 87/100 "
