Riesling

Origin: 'Cuvée Frédéric Emilie' is only produced when the Trimbach family believe the vintage is good enough to produce grapes of sufficient quality to make this top wine. The clay-limestone soil and 40-year-old vines add complexity and minerality.

Taste: A superbly concentrated nose of pineapples, lime, lemongrass, green apples, blossom and minerals. The palate emulates the nose, with the intensity of the fruit building in the mouth.

Enjoy: After several years' bottle ageing this is already a beautiful wine but it has the potential to age for a further 10 years.

"This fantastic dry Riesling is produced using extra ripe, late harvested grapes. A superbly concentrated nose of pineapples, lime, lemongrass, green apples, blossom and minerals. The palate emulates the nose, with the intensity of the fruit building in the mouth. The backbone of limes and minerals provides a wonderful lift, preparing the palate for another gulp. Absolutely delicious!"

"The best wines have a sparkle that's hard to describe, an energy that sets them apart from the mundane. If you have 30 quid to spare - the price of a basic bottle of champers - then you can see what I mean by picking up a bottle of this great riesling. It has a sensation similar to biting into a Cox's apple, but the flavours are more on the mineral and citrus end of the spectrum, and it's delicate but incredibly concentrated."
