Origin
The Kaiken is a Patagonian goose, which regularly migrates across the Andes, and this is exactly what winemaker Aurelio Montes has done. The renowned Chilean winemaker has selected fruit from a number of vineyards in Agrelo and Uco Valley.
Taste
A deep, ruby and violet-coloured wine, with a backbone of plum and berry fruit, and spicy touches from maturation in French oak. Concentrated and complex, with ripe, sweet tannins and a long finish.
Enjoy
A versatile wine, matching well with pizza, pasta or pork chops.

    published online as '2008' vintage - received a 2010 vintage ...

very disappointed ... spoke to local store, - blamed their HQ offices for publishing wrong vintage - tried to convince me this wine is so good that the vintage 'is not that important' ... ! (although they offered refund or swap, but this would means I have to visit the store ...) not the best way to treat a long term customer ... !

    intense wine

Intense wine, but still very mellow in the mouth. The bonardo and petit verdot slightly lessen the flavour compared to some of the other malbec varietals

Staff Reviews

  • "Named after the Kaiken, a bird which migrates over the Andes every year...much like its producer Aurelio Montes (of Chilean winery Montes fame). A great full bodied wine, with excellent complexity and depth added to the Malbec from the Petit Verdot and Bonarda also present in the blend. The wine offers rich bramble fruits with supple tannins, perfect with barbecued lamb chops over the coming summer months. A must for any Malbec lover."
