Grape

Malbec

Origin
One of Flichman's top wines, combining the unique characteristics of two terroirs in a single grape variety. Tupungato at 1,100m altitude gives freshness and structure while Barrancas, at 700m, adds colour and density. Aged for over 6 months in American and French oak.
Taste
An intense red colour leads to aromas of plums combined with delicate oak, spices and chocolate. Red berry fruit continues on the palate where it is met with a hint of herbal spice.
Enjoy
A complex wine and a perfect match with steak or rich sausages. Alternatively, at the end of a meal with a chocolate filled pudding.

    Fine - even without steak

Well, I'm a veggie - so?! We too like robust, gutsy wine, and this is on the list. Works verk will BBQ (veggie) food, and also with choccy puddings. I'm not going into the technical stuff, but it works very well, is good to drink, palatable. Can have a sharpness, but at that price? Are you mad? Don't buy it - I need some more and don't want them to sell out. A

    Honest and hearty

I cant help but think the negative reviews for this wine are coming from people who's idea of a decent red is one which is steeped in old world nuances and flavour profiles with a smattering of heritage thrown in. If you pay £6 for a bottle of Argentine Malbec, what do you expect? I expect super ripe fruit almost jammy, I expect not perfect balance but enough to allow me to enjoy it. But fundamentally I expect a wine that will please 4 out of 5 red wine drinkers, and that is exactly what I get with this. Its amaxing value for money at £6 and certainly not poor quality as some have intimated. Well worth it.

    gutsy red

Inky rich deep colour, sweet ripe cherry with a hint of plum on the nose, long lasting taste with a hint of oak and leather, not too tanic. Enjoyed with food, very drinkable !

    Cracker

Great with food or on it's own, a personal favourite coming second only to the Vinalba

    NO!

Bland nose? It nearly broke mine!! What an intriguing idea multi altitude grapes but sadly intriguing isn’t good. It’s just too rich for me and the nose whacks you before your lips get near the wine. It’s almost jammy like bad pinotage (yes I’m sure many of you think all pinotage is bad but despite my criticism of this wine I quite like some of those South African Rhinoceros of Reds)

    Mixed thoughts

A fairly bland nose, hides the plummy and even pruney bold attack. A long dry finish. You can feel the 14%. Not an easy drink, a touch rough around the edges makes this more ideal to be taken with red meat, where I am sure it would come into it's own. Bronze medal? Barely, but worth a punt for your Sunday roast AND it is something a bit different too.

  • "An intense inky purple hue gives way to a nose of dark berries and plums. Beautifully balanced on the palate, with soft tannis providing a wonderful mouth-feel. For me, the fruit has a confected almost jammy edge to it which makes it a real crowd pleaser. This is perhaps one of Majestic's best malbecs for less than £6."
