Grape

Cabernet Franc, Merlot

Origin
This small estate of 13 hectares only produces around 3000 cases a year and Majestic has snapped up a direct parcel at cracking prices. Comprising 80% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc, these wines are usually dark and direct.
Taste
With an aromatic nose of raspberries, cherries, smoke and espresso, the palate is rich and opulent with loads of fruit and a plush texture.
Enjoy
Drinking well now, this vintage ripened Merlot better than Cabernet Sauvignon. Enjoy over the next 4-5 years; decant before drinking.

Staff Reviews

  • "Ooh La La! This wine has a knockout nose of raspberries, espresso and asphalt. On the palate, the wine has even more to offer. Rich and full bodied, there is an abundance of raspberry and cherry fruit intermingled with the delicious flavours of espresso coffee. There are also nuances of licorice and tobacco on the very long and pleasurable finish. This is a fantastic Pomerol for the money. Ready to drink now, or stash it away for 4 - 5 years and treat yourself in a few years time."

Press Reviews

  • "Dark and lively and seems informed by the Cabernet rather than lushly Merlot. Attractive perfume. Sweet start and very velvety texture. Good example of Pomerol – not skinny at all. Good time to drink this. Very satisfying with no rough edges or awkward corners. Quite GV. Drink 2006-10. 17 points."

  • "The 2002 vintage in Bordeaux is one of the more modest of the decade, but some of the wines have been lovely and still are. This Pomerol is one of them. It has a fragrant, ripe nose with some more mature, nutty notes and a palate that is succulent and rounded with sweet-plum fruit, chocolate, cedar and velvety tannins. 92/100 "
