Located on the stony soils of the Waimea Plains, the hand-picked grapes were gently whole-bunch pressed with only the free-run juice and lightest pressings used. Bursting with aromas of pear, honey, candied apple, spice and even a hint of cream, the intensity of pure fruit flavours is complimented by clean acidity, good length and soft texture.

This strong pinto gris is quite delightful with a lot going on. An entree of 'Goosberry Grand Central' quickly followed by a lemon zing. The complexity is long lasting on the tongue which is when the sultry, even heavy buttery / vanilla overtones hits you, very wet, yet a slighlty dry finish. The finish leaves you unclear as to what of these various sensations won the the day and therefore you quoff a little more to try again. Lovely. I am unsure as to what food you would match this to, but you know what? it's an easy drink and therefore I recommend nothing more than some salty Cashews from sainsburys. There are no down sides to this quite singular wine.

Yup! Very good. Not too acidic, chill well and enjoy in the sun!

  • Great alternative to expensive Alsace!

I found this a great example of New Zealand Pinot Gris with aromas of pear drops, candied apple, fresh figs and Mirabelle plums. I likened it to a rich Alsace style (similar to the 2003 vintage perhaps?) An off-dry entry leads into a textured mid-palate, with nice acidity on the sides, and the wine ends with a soft, non-bitter finish. Good concentration of fruit weight means for me this is an elegant yet full-bodied wine that works very well with Asian & lightly spiced dishes.
