Named as its light, delicate colour matches that of the eye of the Partridge, this is a subtley delicious Champagne from Devaux. Coming from the Côtes des Bars in the south of the region, the red Pinot Noir grapes develop an unusual level of ripeness, lending the wine its hue despite a gentle pressing. Although certainly delicate in style, there is a perfect weight of fruit, developing fine biscuity characteristics as the wine matures.

"No summer pink selection would be complete without champagne and this is Britain’s best sub-£20 buy, easily outclassing supermarket bubblies. Made by Devaux from pinot noir grapes grown in the outlying Côte des Bar, this prettily labelled pink bubbly delivers ripe, elegant, blackberry and blackcurrant-scented fruit."

...for the price. Light and summery. A good aperitif but have enjoyed with shellfish. Unpretentious, genuine and delicate.

  • Lovely on a Summer Evening

My wife's all-time favourite (and, believe me, she's tried lots). Very pale pink colour and, unlike robust Champagnes such as Roederer or Bollinger, easy to drink on its own - lovely on a summer evening in the garden. My only reservation would be that, to me (and all our taste buds differ) Oeil de Perdrix doesn't actually taste pink - there's an edge of grapefruit. Not unpleasant, just unexpected in a rosé Champagne.
