One of 9 children of the owner of Rioja house Bodegas Palacios Remondo, Alvaro Palacio has broken away from Rioja to pursue an independent winemaking philosophy. His holdings in Bierzo total only 30ha, spread across some 200 tiny, steeply-sloped vineyard sites.

DMZ Chardonnay 2011 De Morgenzon, Stellenbosch 75cl Bottles

Bright golden colour, with a nose of clean tropical fruit, almonds and sweet vanilla. Peachy fruit on the palate is supported by delicate oak and subtle spice.

Chablis 2009/2010 Boudin

Prolonged vinification produces an atypically rich style - more Côte d'Or than Chablis. All wines are unfiltered and unoaked.

Mount Difficulty Pinot Gris 2010/2011 Central Otago

Cool fermentation has preserved maximum primary fruit character from this delicate grape variety, with peach blossom and fresh pear notes taking centre stage.

Rioja Reserva 'Dos Maderas' 2006 Beronia

Dos Maderas means 'two woods': the barrels used by the winery are made from both American and French oak. Deep ruby-maroon in colour, with plenty of density.

Vin de Constance 2005 Klein Constantia, Constantia 50cl Bottle

Richly viscous in the glass, with a burnt orange-gold hue, this wine exhibits youthfully fresh, floral muscat aromas, and exotically spicy confectionary flavours on the unctuously textured palate.

Greywacke Sauvignon 2011 Marlborough

This New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc has intense aromatics of melon, peach and papaya which are accompanied by hints of tomato leaf and capsicum.

Bright yet bold and dense cherry red, with an aromatic nose of sweet prunes, raspberry compote and hints of toast. The palate is equally fruit-driven, with robust tannins and a peppery finish.

Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru 'La Maltroie' 2009 Fontaine Gagnard

Aromas of pears mingle with the rounder flavours of buttered toast and vanilla on the rich, fat palate. The finish is superb.
