"Spanish white wines have come a long way in the past 30 years. Gone for good are the heavy, oxidised whites, replaced by fresher, fruitier fare. Marqués de Riscal was instrumental in effecting these changes, pioneering crisp, tangy whites from the local verdejo grape in the Rueda region to the northwest of Madrid. This is typical of the variety, even though it's blended with a little bit of viura: sappy and youthful with notes of grapefruit and wet stones."
