This Reserva shows complex aromas of ripe fruit, cedar and spice, which develop into a smooth, velvety palate with powerful dark fruit flavours, hints of coffee and an almost chocolatey richness.
-
Made from the Mencía grape variety, slate soils in the region help add an elegant minerality to the palate, balanced by red cherry and red currant fruits and a hint of toasted oak spice. (Spain)
-
Black fruit characters complement the sweet vanilla and toasty hints wonderfully. (Spain)
"This region is producing phenomenal wines and is well on its way to stealing Rioja's crown for superb Spanish reds. Made using 100% Tempranillo and Rioja's ageing process, this wine exudes lashings of dark fruit tempered with luscious vanilla oak. Cracking with a rack of lamb and good company."

The aromas are very complex with balsamic fragrances, very ripe fruit leather and tobacco. Well-balanced and suggestive, notes of cedar wood and coffee liqueur persist on the finish.

Muga's Reserva has a lovely bouquet of vanilla and strawberry aromas that follow through elegantly on the palate. (Spain)
"I've been following the Muga family wines since first tasting their 1987 vintage many years ago, and finally persuaded them to sell to Majestic during my years as a buyer in the early 1990s. The wines are unashamedly old-fashioned, being made in huge wood vats and fined using egg white. Unlike many modern Riojas they retain the traditional soft, strawberry fruit character and are fantastically balanced. This offering, from the amazing 2004 vintage, will age effortlessly for up to 20 years."
