Sauvignon Blanc

Origin
The vineyards of The Ned are located on the banks of the Waihopai River and on the southern side of the Wairau Valley. The river runs the length of the 268ha vineyard and is the origin of the shingle-based soil.
Taste
A nose of nettles and grass leads to generous gooseberry flavours with a smoky herbal twist on the palate. The stony terroir gives the wine a subtle gun flint minerality which delivers extra complexity.
Enjoy
Drink now with fresh summer salads and seafood.

    It's delicious

I'm usually somebody who reads rather than posts reviews, but the quality of this wine, particularly for the price moved me to do so. Bought initially as something similar to Oyster Bay that was out of stock, we quickly realised that this is as good, if not better. Even had people commenting favourably at Christmas who had no idea what it was.

Staff Reviews

  • "The Ned is an excellent Kiwi Sauvignon Blanc, and a firm favourite among staff, and customers alike. On the border of very classy and easily aproachable, a lovely fruity wine to enjoy on any occasion, or if you want to show off, it has enough depth and complexity to impress!"

  • A perfect go-to NZ Sauvignon

"Despite the connotations of 'Ned' in Scotland (an acronym for Non-Educated Delinquent), the Ned Sauvignon is anything but unrefined. It has hallmark crisp acidity, vibrant gooseberry and nettle, with a touch of passionfruit and a really lovely gun-flint mineral streak on the finish. It's tremendous value and deservedly a firm favourite amongst Majestic customers and staff, with good reason. Remarkably complex for its very modest price, it's proof positive that you can have good quality Marlborough Sauvignon at an accessible price; perfect if you're entertaining and want to impress your guests without re-mortgaging."

  • Refreshingly crisp, surprisingly complex

"A classic Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc named after the highest peak in the area in which it is made, the Ned is a hugely popular wine with Majestic customers across the country. Refreshingly crisp, surprisingly complex and well balanced, it's a great choice whether you're entertaining or simply looking for a refreshing drink to enjoy on its own or with lighter meals."

Press Reviews

  • Beautifully aromatic, almost exotic (2012 Vintage)

"Here is a beautifully aromatic, almost exotic take on sauvignon blanc, with melon, passion fruit and grapefruit flavours. There’s even a hint of tangerine. (Jamie Goode, Sunday Express, 21st October 2012)"

  • Consistently good-value (2011 Vintage)

"Brent Marris' consistently good-value The Ned operation has come up trumps once again here with this very smart Marlborough Sauvignon. It offers a fine balance between the grassy and the passionfruited, with a little suggestion of flinty complexity and zesty, citrussy acidity. (The Wine Gang, www.thewinegang.com, July 2012)"

  • Mouthwatering, bold, floral (2011 Vintage)

"Mouthwatering, bold, floral, white currant, nettle and gooseberry-stashed 2011 from Marlborough is just the ticket for all those al fresco summer spreads (Jane MacQuitty, The Times, 9th June 2012)"

  • Absolutely bang-on character (2011 Vintage)

"Perfect with the last of this year's asparagus or a grilled new-season mackerel, this is a terrific deal on one of the best Marlborough Sauvignon Blancs, a region where the competition is extremely tough. Absolutely bang-on character aromas of nettles and cut grass lead to refreshing, minerally and mouth-tingling tastes of gooseberry and green herbs. (Terry Kirby, The Independent, 13th May 2012)"
