Grape

Negroamaro

Origin
From the Puglia region, Salice Salento is creating a bit of a buzz in the wine community for its complex, distinct and great value wines. This is no exception, the indigenous Negroamoro grape creating a smoky, plummy wine with earthy notes and real identity.
Taste
This robust wine displays real complexity from several years' bottle ageing, including dried fig and smoky notes. However, a backbone of dark plum and bramble still dominate.
Enjoy
This is a full-bodied style of wine, but the added complexity from ageing make it a match to a myriad of barbecued meat dishes.

Lovely Italian red for the money

This ruby red Italian has characteristically lively tannins, but lovely brambly fruit soon comes to the fore and distinguishes this as a very good inexpensive wine rather than simply a cheap one. In fact as someone else in the shop said when he saw me with a bottle, "One of the best in the store at under a tenner!" I had my first bottle with pork chops, and it went extremely well with food. Lovely.

    Berry burst with spice

Definitely needs a good hour to breathe. Good rich tannins on the palate. Lovely full bodied, robust, punchy red which must be enjoyed with a red meat meal.

Full On-But needs food or a cigar.

This shocked. We had it with a Tuscan dish - Briaciole Di Maiale Ubriache (Pork Chops with Fennel Seeds) and it really hit the spot. It was also great with a mega-calorie chocolate cake my son had made at his friends house. A treat with rich foods but not to be drunk alone - unless you smoke cigars.

    Smooooth and Satisfying

Fantastic value at the offer price of 6.99. Soft fruit flavours - morello cherry with a hint of violet. This grape is reminicent of Cabernet Franc (as in a mature Chinon), and the Mencia in Spain. This wine improves tremendously with opening well in advance.

    Yummy!

Big, fruity but with good tannins. Gluggable. Some depth of flavour. Very enjoyable.
