Grape

Vermentino

Origin
Poggioargentiera are based in Maremma, in the southernmost part of Tuscany, where estate owner Gianpaolo Paglia was born. Italy's native Vermentino thrives in the warm, sunny Mediterranean climate, producing generously fruity white wines.
Taste
Clean and fresh on the nose, the wine is full of ripe peach and citrus aroma. The palate offers a swathe of soft pear and stone fruit character, cut through with a refreshing limey streak.
Enjoy
Great with pan-seared salmon or trout, with a herby fresh tomato salsa.

    Fresh orchard fruits

I found this wine in a Tuscan restaurant overlooking Florence and loved it and am so glad I can now get it at It's crisp refreshing nature and citrus and orchard fruits is perfect on a summers afternoon.

    cLASSY, REALLY GOOD

GREAT CRISP ITALIAN WHITE, have eaten with gorganzola cheese, & pear sales, tarragon chicken. One of the best I have had at this price. Cheam branch had sold out last time I was there, and epsom didn't have any either. They recommended the Peccorino as an alternative ( has a cartoon sheep on the label ) also really enjoyable.

    classy and classic med. white

Just tasted this in-store - a vibrant, mineral, almost salty wine very at home with stong med. foods like seafood, crab linguine etc. A bargain from a top estate.

Press Reviews

  • Fresh and clean (2011 Vintage)

"Vermentino is the classic white grape of the western Italian Mediterranean: this one is from the Maremma, the coastal, low-lying area at the southern tip of Tuscany. Fresh and clean, with ripe, rounded pear fruit. (Andrew Neather, The Evening Standard, 23rd August 2012)"

  • Dry citrus flavours there is a trace of pears (2011 Vintage)

"Along with its bone dry citrus flavours there is a trace of pears and dried herbs, before ending on a mineral, almost salty note. (Tom Bruce-Gardyne, The Herald, 11th August 2012)"

  • Appetisingly dry Italian white (2011 Vintage)

"Made from the Mediterranean variety Vermentino, which retains its naturally fresh acidity well even under the warm Tuscan sun, this is an appetisingly dry Italian white whose peach and apple flavours are brought to life by a refreshing spritz and a lively bite of crisp lemon-lime acidity. Rating: 87/100 (The Wine Gang, www.thewinegang.com, August 2012)"
