Grape

Barbera

Origin
The Piedmont region of Northern Italy, surrounded by the Alps, is home to Italy's third most planted grape variety. Alba is one of the few areas in which Barbera is planted on the best sites and producing wines capable of challenging Barolo and Barabaresco's crown.
Taste
Intense and concentrated nose of black cherries, plums, spice and liquor cherry. A palate with high acidity, exhibiting flavours of brooding dark fruits, liquor spices and firm tannins with a long finish.
Enjoy
Excels when paired with strongly flavoured food such as red meat, tomato based sauces or strong cheeses. Enjoy over the next five years.

    Very good

This wine is super, but it does need to be at room temperature to be at its best! I specifically ordered three bottles for Christmas day and it went down a treat but 2 hrs in the decanter did the trick, my wife raved about to the point she was even talking about its flavours. Absolute winner at £7.99 a bottle!!!

    Very disappointing

On the basis of the earlier reviews I bought half dozen of the 2008 vintage. The first bottle was poor and I will be consigning the rest to the cooking cupboard. What you would expect for £3 not £7.99. Feel cheated.

Lovely with a bit of bottle age

The 2007 showed beautifully last night with an intense, heavily reduced Ragu. The initial biting Cherry attack, which I personally really enjoy, mellowed after a while but the wine offered beautiful balance between fruit, tannin and acidity, and quality to the last mouthful 3 hours after opening. Excellent vfm at the £7.99 I paid.

    Excellent Italian Wine

An excellent wine! I drank this with a home-made lasagne and it was great. There is a clean and fresh seam of acidity which really drives home the ripe red fruit. It is also surprisingly complex and 'grows in the glass'. Me and the wife loved it!
