Grape

Grenache, Syrah or Shiraz

Origin
The cuvée 'Saint-Esprit' comes from a small valley which nestles in the northern part of the Ardèche. The vineyards are planted on granite, south-facing slopes near the villages of Saint-Julien and Saint-Alban.
Taste
Possesses an impressive purity in its black fruit, which is embellished with hints of spice on both nose and palate; the Syrah in the blend really showing its peppery influence.
Enjoy
Drink over the next 5-6 years with spicy meat dishes, casserole or venison.

A disappointment after the 2005. Perfectly pleasant with a long finish but lacking presence in the middle.

We had the Delas Saint Esprit for my son's wedding 3 years ago but it was 2005, a stellar year. It was widely admired by both male and female guests. The vintages I have drunk since have come nowhere near it. I like the poise of the wine but it needs more oomph!

easy to drink soft , pleasant

but there are better wines from the region at 9 pounds but fair value at the 7.49 multiple bottle price

    OK, but there's better

Perfectly ok, but rather bog standard, undistinctive Rhone, even at the price. Better to trade up £1 to the Churchills Douro or Blason d'Aussieres.

'til we meet again my lovely

Freezing cold November evening. This bottle had sat near an old school radiator to warm through. Decanted an hour before drinking. Deliciously smooth and easy drinking. The bottle went so soon...

    Beautifully light summer drinker

This is how Rhones should be and used to be! Light easy drinking and fruity. Remember those days before everyone tried to make chateauneuf du pape me toos? Lovely Jubbly

  • "A Syrah/Grenache blend with bright, punchy fruit of raspberry and strawberry and a little cream. The palate is dry and savoury, with lots of juiciness and a keen edge of cherry acidity. This is lovely, with very good life and freshness, and the discount price of £6.99 (when you but two until end October 2009) makes it a steal. Score: 89/100 "
