The Volnay appellation is known for its mixture of limestone based soil, with a topsoil of gravel and red earth, said to produce wines with plenty of body and finesse. Labouré-Roi ferment a carefully controlled portion of the grapes with their stems still attached to add to the wine's tannic structure. The wine has a bouquet of crushed berry fruits and subtle hints of violet. The fruit on the palate is ripe and forward, and the finish is long.
