Grape

Carmenère

Origin
The Indo name is inspired by the native 'Indians' of northern Chile, and their unique geometric style of artwork. Anakena's vineyards are native to the same areas, including Alto Cachapoal, Las Cabras, Leyda and the Ninquen Hill in Colchagua.
Taste
The nose combines dark damson and plum fruit with subtle aromas of roasted coffee bean and rosewood smoke, which the palate is ripe, soft, and held together by elegantly polished tannins.
Enjoy
A super accompaniment for steak, barbecued chorizo, or a rack of ribs.

Press Reviews

  • This lamb-friendly Chilean red (2010 Vintage)

"This lamb-friendly Chilean red is vivid and fruity with bold, sweet berry flavours and plenty of structure. Very appealing. (Jamie Goode, Sunday Express, 1st April 2012)"

  • Full-bodied, packed with ripe, juicy black-fruit flavours (2010 Vinatge)

"Spring may herald the start of the barbecue season and Chile's Carmenère is a lovely grape to accompany outdoor cooking. Full-bodied, packed with ripe, juicy black-fruit flavours, it is as straightforward as a piece of grilled chicken or lamb, maybe with a little spicy relish. This one has flavours of tobacco, coffee and leather to give added depth and complexity. (Terry Kirby, Independent on Sunday, 1st April 2012)"
