Grape

Cinsault, Grenache, Syrah or Shiraz

Origin
From the Nîmes region at the foot of the Rhône appellation, Grenache, Syrah and Cinsault are grown on the unique rolling pebbles, or 'gress' of Château Guiot. The colour is obtained by keeping the skins in contact with the juice before fermentation.
Taste
Perfume, red berries, spice, summer berries and blossom aromas with an off-dry, medium weight of fruit, clean and mineral acidity and a vibrant sweet redcurrant finish.
Enjoy
A wine that will bring sunshine to the cloudiest day, best enjoyed young. An apéritif or partner to tortellini with rabbit ragout.

    Always likeable

I agree with the sentiments above. Characterful wine in the Costieres tradition; one shouldn't like its variation from the Provencal rose norm, but the fact is that I enjoy it for all that and keep coming back to it! Easy drinking and with sufficient body to stand up to a wider range of food than most rose.

    Great buy!

Lovely fruit. Light enough to be enjoyed chilled on a summer afternoon, but also versatile with roasted meat in the winter. A real bargain!

    JJ is so wrong

And Jane MacQuitty is so right. This is the rose I come back to time and time again. The shame is that my Majestic banches (I use several) keep selling out of it. More stock please!

    Not pleasant

Struggled to finish the bottle. Took second bottle back for an exchange

Much nicer and less acid than Cotes de Provence

I certainly disagree with JJ. Most friends say this wine smells of strawberries. This is made from the same grapes as many Californian rosé wines, but without all the corn sugar and other junk additives. It comes from the most southerly wine growing area of the Cotes du Rhone, but is less expensive because it is less well known. The vineyard is 10 miles from the hottest and sunniest point in France. Sun + heat means high fruit sugar and low acid. Work it out for yourself.

Chivers - how much acid does your cotes de provence havejQuery15205841766611221213_1344415614664?? mine has none but plenty of freshness! What a wierd comment to make. This Rose is very dull and boring but would probably appeal to a tired palate.

Press Reviews

  • "An old southern French friend, made by François and Sylvia Cornut, from vineyards south of Nîmes, planted predominantly with grenache, and some syrah. At 13.5 per cent alcohol, and with lots of firm, refreshing, lemony fruit, this is almost a pale red, not a rosé."

  • "My first thought - though it's not an obvious one for Christmas - is a strong, dry rosé such as the refreshing Château Guiot Rosé 2009 Costières de Nimes."
