Pinot Noir

Origin
Mount Difficulty is a boutique winery located in Bannockburn in Central Otago. The Bannockburn area is internationally recognized as one of the few places in the world where the petulant Pinot Noir variety has found a home outside Burgundy.
Taste
This wine exhibits a lovely mix of red and black berry fruits with further complexity gained from oak spice. These characters are balanced by soft tannins, balanced acidity and a fruit-driven finish.
Enjoy
This is a cracking, complex wine to be enjoyed over the next five years. Enjoy with pork loin and peach chutney or rabbit casserole.

    Splendid Pinot, excellent value

Earthy, rusty colour, cherry and leather nose, a touch of truffle, leading to a phenomenal chocolate and mocha coffee palate with a luscious creamy aftertaste and spicy notes of clove, juniper berries and white pepper. Splendid!

    Roaring Meg

We love this wine, we first tasted it in Japan and were very happy to find it at Majestic. Very smooth wine

    A very good pinot

A very good pinot noir indeed - I'm buying more! PS I believe Tim Atkin is wrong - 'Roaring Meg' is a very small hydroelectric station in Central Otago, that roars.

    Underwelmed

I wonder whether this needs decanting for an hour before drinking. I found it very acidic with very little of interest on either palate or nose.

    Roaring Meg

First tasted this wine on Etihad a few months ago, what a flight! Will be my wine of choice when home at Christmas. Really good wine.

Press Reviews

  • "Roaring Meg was a bar owner and good time girl in the days of the Bendigo gold rush. The wine that bears her name is suitably juicy and appealing, with supple red and black fruits and a touch of sweet oak."

  • "Gooey bries tend to work well with fruity pinot noirs such as the lush Roaring Meg Mount Difficulty Pinot Noir from Central Otago."
