    Delicious

This is an excellent bargain at the moment: first-class.juicy, succulent, young Morgon, brilliant with chicken, ham, lamb especially. As elegant as he beautiful chateau itself.

    Not very good at all

Just had a bottle of the 2011. Poor, quite bitter. Not a premium wine at all. Disappointing because the Pizay Beaujolais is pretty good.

    Lovely wine

I bought some 2009 and forgot about a couple of bottles till 2011, wow! The 2011 is very good too and I will hide a few and wait. However, right now top marks - love it with roasts especially.

Press Reviews

  • Blackberry and plump summer pudding (2011 Vintage)

"Taking the natural exuberance of the same producer's basic Beaujolais, this adds just a touch (no more; we're not talking southern Rhône here) of heft and tannin to the pure Gamay fruit with its blackberry and plump summer pudding flavours. Rating: 88/100 (The Wine Gang, www.thewinegang.com, July 2012)"

  • Something playful (2011 Vintage)

"There is something playful suggested by the very sound of the words gamay (the grape variety) and beaujolais (or bo jolly, as Del Boy used to call it). This wine offers that joie de vivre but, being from the region's Morgon area, has just a little more muscle and grit along with the characteristic summer berries. (David Williams, The Observer, 8th July 2012)"

  • "If you prefer a more robust style, there's the fuller-bodied Château de Pizay Morgon 2009. According to the label, it's "distinguished by the splendour of its garnet-red robe" (a reassuringly bad French translation that suggests the producer isn't rich, or cynical, enough to have a marketing department). Spot on for duck."
