Grape

Syrah or Shiraz, Grenache, Mourvèdre

Origin
Turkey Flat vineyards are so named because they stand on an area of flatlands, on the banks of Tanunda Creek, that were once home to a proliferation of wild turkeys. The first Shiraz vines were planted in this area by Silesian settler Johann Fiedler in 1847.
Taste
The nose is floral with hints of five spice, plum, cherry and blackcurrant. The palate is generous, displaying juicy fruit with a firm palate structure. Elegant and restrained, with a velvety finish.
Enjoy
Drink with all red meats, game pie, or chargrilled sausages.

    Disappointing

I am very fond of Australian blends, but feel something has gone wrong here. Not for me.

    Not a great year

I purchased this after having the 2008 vintage and was a bit disappointed. The '08 has a lot more fruit and packs the kind of punch you'd expect from this GSM. That would have been a 5 star rating!

  • A good example of the genre (2010 Vintage)

"Archetypal Barossa red and a good example of the genre. Rich, ripe and spicy, with vivid raspberry and blackberry fruit and dark chocolate flavours cut by a twist of black pepper and edged with toasty, nutty oak. You can drink it now, but it will cellar well (in good conditions) for another 7 years Rating: 89/100 (The Wine Gang, www.thewinegang.com, July 2012)"
