Made from a blend of grapes grown on mature vines in a number of different vineyard sites in the Mâcon, Côte Chalonnaise and the Côte d'Or. Fermented and matured in stainless steel, no oak is used in production, maintaining the wine's elegance and minerality.
The most famous of all Loire Sauvignons, Sancerre is renowned for its crisp, citrus and gooseberry flavours, balanced by restrained mineral elegance.
Made exclusively for Majestic by one of our favourite new wineries, this mouth-watering Sauvignon has intense aromas of passionfruit, blackcurrant leaf and gooseberry and a palate of ripe gooseberry and herbs. The crisp acidity is balanced by an enticing minerality.
Classified as a Cru Bourgeois in 1932, Château Picard is considered one of the best wines of the appellation, and is situated in the heart of St. Estèphe in an area of exceptional clay soils. A mellow, mahogany-tinged rim shows the maturity of the wine, with confirmation coming from the raisiny fruit on nose and palate. Hints of cinnamon, anise and dried herbs add a heady complexity. Partner with slow-cooked meats such as braised lamb shank.
The Piedmont region of Northern Italy, surrounded by the Alps, is home to Italy's third most planted grape variety - Barbera. Barbera d'Asti has the most vines, with many of the vineyards planted on the lower slopes and in sheltered areas resulting in fresher styles. Intense aromas of red cherries, vanilla, rose petals and spice leap from the glass, with the intense, powerful palate exhibiting an elegant balance of fruit and tannin to a long, smooth and crisp finish. Drinkable now, matched with salumi or antipasti, or aged for up to 6 years. The wine will benefit from being decanted before drinking.
Clare Valley's relatively cool climate results in reds that are more elegant and freshly fruity than in many other regions of Australia. This Shiraz really epitomises the Clare style, coming from one of the highest altitude, and therefore coolest locations. The inky blackcurrant and boysenberry fruit is lifted by violet and menthol notes, with smooth tannins still providing plenty of grip and a good 5 years' cellaring potential.
