2 x 'El Chaparral de Vega Sindoa' Old Vine Garnacha 2008/2009 Navarra

The traditionally bush-trained vines from this part of the Nekeas Valley are between 70 and 100 years old, and yield low numbers of high quality berries. The Atlantic influences in this region contribute to higher acidity, which lends better balance to the otherwise quick-ripening Garnacha. With excellent focus and structure, the wine displays intense blackberry and raspberry fruit, and a streak of bitter chocolate flavour to the tannins.

2 x Berberana 'Clasico 1877' Reserva 2006 Mentrida

Named in honour of the year of Berberana's founding, this is an unmistakably Spanish red wine, which spends 24 months in cask before bottling. From the Mentrida region, this is a quality Rioja alternative, offering classic Reserva styling and a bargain price. Intense vanilla aromas fill the nose, lifting the warm stewed berry fruit. Smooth and fleshy on the palate, with a profile of raspberry and blackberry jam. Soft but grippy tannins complete the picture. A great partner for barbecued pork chops, or aromatic smoked cheeses.
