Chardonnay

Origin
Milly-Lamartine is a small commune in the Mâcon-Villages entitled to put it's name on the label due to a higher quality reputation. This wine has previously topped Decanter blind tasting polls and has a superbly refreshing style.
Taste
Plenty of zesty lime and orange here but with elements of pineapple and mineral too. Medium bodied with a rounded finish, this is Mâcon wine at its' best.
Enjoy
The refreshing balance of fruit and a medium-weight make this wine the perfect accompaniment to seafood in mild-medium sauces.

    Plank of wood

No oakiness? I tasted this alongside a good Yarra chard, and it was difficult to tell the difference. Cordier is still throwing far too much (not always top-quality) oak at what underneath are nice wines.

    Not good

This is not as good as the previous two years by Clos du Four, it has absolutely no oakiness. I agree though with the fact that Cordier is one of the best winemakers in Burgundy. I'll rate this wine 2 stars, but the 2006 and 2007 would be 5 stars.

Staff Reviews

  • "Unfortunately, I am a sucker for good white Burgundy! From one of the best vineyards in the Mâconnais, this has all the attributes of top Chardonnay, walking the fine line between richness, acidity and oak. Half the price of basic Meursault and better than many, Christophe is one of the most talented winemakers in Burgundy. "

Press Reviews

  • "Good zing and complexity with some layers but the oak feels a touch tired and the wine could do with a bit more vibrance and resonance to lift the profile. Could be good with creamy dishes. Score: 87/100"

  • "Rich and creamy, this is one of the best-value French Chardonnays around. Tailor made for goose or nut roast."
