Origin
The village of Plan de Dieu is situated just to the north of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, in amongst some of the best appellations of the southern Rhône. This wine is named after the Mistral wind, responsible for much of the region's climatic characteristics.
Taste
An invitingly perfumed nose of wild herbs leads into a palate that is dense and firm, with layers of ripe red fruit, smooth yet sinewy tannins, and a warming, expansive finish.
Enjoy
Drink with classic 'farmhouse' fare such as coq au vin, shepherd's pie or roasts.

    Nice, Smooth Red

A nice fruity red, that was well balanced and smooth. Lightly spiced and fruity on the nose. Good tannins. Well accompanied with a farmhouse platter (pork pie, and selection of cheese, fruit), or a nice roast dinner. Additionally, loved by normally exclusive white-wine drinkers (mother-inlaw loved it).

    Good southern Rhone!

Nice light red colour, light body, spice& lightly peppery nose, good level of tannins. Dark fruits on palate. Try with extra mature cheddar and Granda Padanno cheese. Good price for £7 but would not have bought at £10 overpriced.

Press Reviews

  • a vibrant aromatic red (2010 Vintage)

"…a vibrant aromatic red with a refreshing blackberry juiciness and a fine-textured smooth ripe spiciness with lively fresh bite etched on the finish (Anthony Rose, The Independent, 5th May 2012)"

  • This is fresh and abundantly fruity (2010 Vintage)

"A blend of 60% Grenache with 30% Syrah and 10% Mourvèdre, this is fresh and abundantly fruity with kirsch and lifted raspberry and Parma violet notes. Very fragrant stuff this. Juicy and tasty on the palate too, it has delicious creamy fruit and some elegance, with refined tannins and good acid balance (The Wine Gang, Spring 2012)."
