Grape

Tinta Roriz, Tinta Barroca, Touriga Franca, Touriga Nacional

Origin
Quinta do Crasto is located on the right bank of the river Douro, halfway between Régua and Pinhão. The wine is a traditionally-styled blend of four of Portugal's indigenous grape varieties.
Taste
With intense aromas of blackberries and raspberries on the nose, the palate is bursting with wild berry characters. Very ripe fruit with ample tannin and spice.
Enjoy
The spice in this wine will match paella and spicy Spanish cured meats. Hard cheeses from the Iberian Peninsula will work well too.

    Tasty

A good all rounder, nose and body. Good change from our usual claret. Am enjoying with an unpasteurised cheddar.

    Disapointing

So fruity it's almost Ribena-like, length on the short side

    Portuguese Pleaser

I've been a fan of Portugals reds for a while. This wine is consistently excellent. I've seen it outclass plenty of decent clarets at dinner parties.

    CRASTO 2008 RED

THIS PORTUGUESE DOURO RED IS COPIOUSLY FRUITY AND SUMPTUOUS WITH SWATHES OF RED FRUITS DELIVERING INCREDIBLE INTENSITY .COMPARES WELL WITH A GRAND CRU CHAMBERTIN 2005..

    Luscious Portuguese Red Wine

You will not find a tastier Red wine anywhere at under £8.00. Bursting with the aromas and tastes of freshly picked berries. One of Portugals best kept secrets. Ypu will be amazed by its quality.

Press Reviews

  • A beautifully ripe, supple, fresh introduction to Douro reds (2010 Vintage)

"One of the wine world’s great bargains, this is a beautifully ripe, supple, fresh introduction to Douro reds, with precise cherry and berry fruit. It’s hard to believe this doesn’t cost much more. (Jamie Goode, Sunday Express – 100 Best Red Wines under £10, 17th March 2013)"

  • Sensational, herby, spiced sloe and damson fruit (2011 Vintage)

"Dating back to 1615, Crasto makes a range of seductive wines. Even this humble red delivers sensational, herby, spiced sloe and damson fruit. (Jane MacQuitty, The Times, 2nd March 2013)"

  • a good alternative for Aussie shiraz (2009 Vintage)

"This fine old producer does a brilliant job of making Douro wines and ports at accessible prices, both in supermarket own-label wines and in this boldly fruit-driven red. The tannins are considerably softer than your average Douro red, making it a good alternative for Aussie shiraz. (David Williams, Observer, 19th February 2012)"

  • fine balancing freshness (2009 Vintage)

"Wonderfully aromatic and fresh Douro blend of the major Port varieties with succulent and deliciously exuberant dark-cherry and damson-plum fruit quality and a fine balancing freshness. (Anthony Rose, Independent, 11th February 2012)"

  • "Gorgeous sloe and Victoria plum-packed, turbo-charged red made from a hotchpotch of Douro grapes."
