Predominantly Merlot with a touch of Cabernet Franc, this smooth, supple red shows powerful plum and cherry fruits on the nose, supported by firm tannins, spice and well-balanced acidity on the palate.
"Bergerac is a wine-producing region formerly popular but now lost in the rush to internationalisation. However, the best wines remain as characterful reminders of times past and, like many ‘old fashioned’ wines, go brilliantly with the foods produced locally. Drink this with charcuterie or game to make both the food and wine sing – the slightly dusty tannins, dark fruit and pronounced acidity are spot on. This is no throwback though – the bonus is that modern winemaking techniques mean the wine is 100% correct too, without too much local character!"
