The wine is medium-bodied and delicate, with enticing berry fruit flavours and good balance. Several years in bottle have resulted in subtle gamey and earthy flavours so typical of good mature Pinot Noir.

This remarkable wine offers an enticingly fragrant bouquet of ripe berries complimented by a full lingering palate.
"All wines arriving in our depot are tasted straightaway for quality control. A full mixed container of NZ Pinot Noirs provided an interesting comparison, coincidentally up against a couple of good Nuits St Georges from Burgundy. While obviously a new world Wither Hills is also clearly a classy wine. There is lots of fruit, but well balanced and not at all jammy. Laid over the top are new oak aromas, but again classily done. If this were from Burgundy we'd be ecstatic!"

"I've been with Majestic for 17 years (albeit never with responsibility for this region) but I still struggle with the complexities of Burgundy. What I do is rely on our buyers to taste, and taste, and taste... and then produce interesting parcels of high quality wine, often from producers I’ve never heard of. Far from the weedy, acidic wines some ‘top’ producers dole out, this is lush, rich and tasty. With just a hint of new oak to balance the fruit, in Burgundian terms it’s a major ‘bargain’. I’d recommend drinking it with food that’s relatively simple to avoid overpowering it - sirloin steak, tomato salad and fresh baguette would be perfect!"
