Grape

Chardonnay

Origin
Aurelio Montes and Douglas Murray founded Viña Montes to pursue the making of premium wines in Chile. Barrel fermented using a mixture of Burgundian and native yeasts this Chardonnay is matured in French oak for 12 months.
Taste
Aromas of banana and pineapple on the nose, with upfront mango and passionfruit on the palate, complemented by a buttery, creamy character to the palate. Hints of toffee on the after taste.
Enjoy
Rich and fruity Chardonnays like this can work quite well with spicy dishes, and are classic partners to poultry in creamy sauces.

    Awesome

Totally agree with the other reviewers - this is as good as any Burgundy I've had. Well structured and complex this will cellar medium term - but it's tasty now!

Fruit and oak is well balanced

Really like this. Tropical fruit and spice on the nose and palate is well balanced so that neither one dominates too much. The intensity and body helped the wine to pair nicely with my dinner of roast chicken in bacon with cumin scented vegetables.

    Gorgeous big, buttery chardonnay.

We were first introduced to this wine by the sommelier at Skylon a year or so ago and have been buying it since.

  • An unashamedly big, ripe and buttery Chardonnay (2011 Vintage)

"An unashamedly big, ripe and buttery Chardonnay that we would describe as New World if it weren't for the fact that so many producers outside (as well as in) Europe are now making the variety in a much more restrained style. Anyway, with its 12 months in new French oak, its rich, buttery-creamy and butterscotch palate, and its notes of toast, banana and mango, this is an opulent and weighty although not (quite) flabby blast from the past that will appeal to the many people who still like their Chardonnays to come with a bit of brawn. Rating: 85/100 (The Wine Gang, www.thewinegang.com November 2012)"
