Grape

Chardonnay

Origin
The climate in the Ardèche, to the west of Rhône, certainly suits Chardonnay. Couple this terroir with Louis Latour's Burgundian expertise and the result is in the style of Meursault. It is treated as if it were grown in one of the Grand Cru vineyards of the Côte-d'Or.
Taste
Yellow-green in colour, with a subtle nose of vanilla. On the palate there are ripe apple and peach fruits with a nutty, buttery creamy texture and notes of vanilla and spice. A powerful and complex wine.
Enjoy
Try with roast chicken and dauphinoise potatoes.

    Fantastic Value

Had this wine in a bar as it came highly recommended by the barman. We loved it, so I bought some and it was even better at home. Just lightly chilled the aroma's are amazing and on the palate it has the right balance between fruit, acidity & weight. A more affordable, quality chardonnay for those who like their white Burgundy.

    Lovely, full bodied chardonnay

Exactly what I like in a chardonnay. Full bodied, oaky and buttery. Knew it was going to be a good one when I poured the 1st glass, lovely yellow colour

    Our favourite white

My husband and I always enjoy this wine - it's such a treat on its own or with food. We like the buttery oakiness of it and enjoy it with our favourite chicken dishes or sometimes, just with some good cheese. Definitely worth trying if you've not tasted it before.

    Always a pleasant surprise

Whenever I have this wine I always am pleasantly surprised at how good it is. A lovely buttery, rich chardonnay. You get a lot for your money, and great if you don't want the extra expense of a burgundy. I urge you to try it!

Serious - but does it have ideas above its station?

I agree with your own comments on the wine. All the Louis Latour wines are interesting and reliable. With the right food, it would give a good Burgundy a run for its money - BUT the oak does make it quite tricky to match to food. A challenge, but the right kind of challenge. And at that price!!

Press Reviews

  • "For those who prefer their chardonnay oaked, Latour is a name best known for its burgundy but at less than a tenner this chardonnay from a less-glamorous region provides better value. Sunlit and slightly nutty and good on the table with dinner."

  • "...is a good value alternative, a kind of mini-mersault produced in the Ardèche from a producer more often associated with burgundy."
