Taste
A lively and juicy representation of this variety, with a soft and supple texture, bright brambly fruit and subtle notes of spice and tobacco leaf, and a hint of vanilla from 6 months in French oak.

For the price, you can't beat it.

Very VERY pleasantly surprised by this wine. A rich, firm taste on the palate which improves after an overnight opening. Excellent value. Good with pasta, red meat or just as an evening sipper while watching a film.

    Decent winter warmer

a nice wine, the oak makes this very much a wintering wine, think firesides and Xmas lunch. Not something you'll be wanting when the nights start drawing out.

    full marks for the money

What a pleasant surprise, full bodied, richly ripe with dark fruits and a delight to drink. This will become a favourite.

    Very disappointing

Slightly less astringent than my aftershave. The worst wine I've ever bought from Majestic.

Staff Reviews

  • A beautiful Carmenere

"This wine, sealed under screwcap, is a great example of young Carmenere. The Santa Rita range offer top quality and consistency vintage after vintage. Really fruity, and with secondary notes of chocolate and mocha! Very easy drinking. Maybe try with some sausages straight from the BBQ?"

Press Reviews

  • Sum of the parts is interesting and enjoyable (2011 Vintage)

"Certainly there's a little of the green capsicum edge that this variety often shows, but good black fruit too. The palate has a little resinous note, but the black fruit and bittersweet coffee of the finish is pleasing. A slightly disjointed wine, but the sum of the parts is interesting and enjoyable (The Wine Gang, Spring 2012)."

  • Spot on, vibrant, dusky (2011 Vintage)

"Spot on, vibrant, dusky, 120 carmenere with lots of scented, spicy, raspberry fruit, finished with currants and chocolate. (Jane MacQuitty, Saturday Times, 17th March 2012)"

  • One of Majestic's impressive range of Chilean reds (2010 Vintage)

"One of Majestic's impressive range of Chilean reds. Here the carmenère grape gives plenty of black fruit, pepper and wood-spice to stand up to the haggis.(Susy Atkins, TELEGRAPH, 22nd January 2012)"

  • "An old friend, Santa Rita's 120 selection honours "120 patriots who helped to lead Chile to Independence" - is a 33 range commemorating the miners’ miraculous escape must be en route. Meanwhile, hoover up this bold, earthy carmenere, complete with this ancient variety’s telltale dusky verdant finish."
