Grape

Loureiro

Origin
Literally 'green wine' from the Minho region of Northern Portugal. Historically fermented in open stone lagares before being run off into cask and undergoing malolactic fermentation. Fermentation now occurs in vat, retaining the classic spritz or CO2 bubble in the wine.
Taste
Complex aromas of white and tropical fruits, citrus and white flowers. A lively and stimulating wine, with good acidity and well balanced, hints of spritz and bubble, with a concentrated and fresh finish.
Enjoy
At its best now, as a partner to seafood, green salads and pasta.

    Something different

I was definitely surprised when this first hit the lips (though the description was spot on). Small fizz to the tongue with a smooth zest finish. Not overpowering. Very unique taste.

    Perfect Summer Wine

Lovely citrus/passion fruit/mineral nose, beautifully acidic and a long mineral finish - great value.

    2011 - too old. Gimme 2012!

The 2011 is a bit tired - nose is a bit dull and palate a bit flabby. Nice spritz though, and the hint of nice zingy, zesty alvarinho flavours. Promises good things for the 2012, I look forward to trying it.

    Love it

Think of long summer days, relaxing by the coast, enjoying a picnic, delictious tasting wine ... think Vino Verde.

    Buy it!!

Like a previous reiewer,I had almost forgotten about the pleasures of a vinho verde. It is just as I remembered - very slightly petillant, light and delicious. A steal at the special price!I

    Zingy!

I had almost forgotten about the simple pleasures of a vinho verde, but the special price offer persuaded me to give it a go. I am glad I did. Fresh, fruity, light and refreshing and - for want of a better word - zingy. If you haven't tried this before then give it a go, you may be pleasantly surprised.

  • Excellent, modern vinho verde (2011 Vintage)

"This excellent, modern vinho verde retains spritzy liveliness but sharpens it up with fresh, green apple and lemon zestiness and flowery aromas. Majestic’s minimum purchase is six mixed bottles, but great value fare like this makes a fortnightly trip preferable to buying indifferent wine weekly. (Brian Elliott, Daily Record, 6th October 2012)"

  • A top candidate for lunchtime sipping with shellfish (2010 Vintage)

"Serve very cold for this shrill zippy white to show off all its intense citrus buzz. Relatively light in alcohol at just over 10% it’s a top candidate for lunchtime sipping with shellfish. (Olly Smith, The Mail on Sunday, 2nd September 2012)"

  • Always brilliant (2011 Vintage)

"…always brilliant – in both senses of the word – light white, with its scintillating freshness and verve, is one of the few wines I return to. (David Williams, The Observer, 9th September 2012)"

  • Delightfully citrussy (2010 Vintage)

"Dry, bright and crisp, this is a modern take on the classic fresh white of northern Portugal. It’s delightfully citrussy with good acidity. (Jamie Goode, The Sunday Express, 24th June 2012)"

  • "Delicious, sparky vinho verde with tongue-tingling floral lemon zest and aniseed spiked fruit: the perfect spring aperitif and fish white."

  • "50% Loureiro 50% Pederna. Fragrant, floral aromas with a very clean and crisp, minerally palate. Awesome value for this zinging fresh summery white with pleasingly low alcohol. Score: 88/100"
