Grape

Albariño

Origin
Founded in 1986 in the Rias Baixas region of Northwestern Spain, Martin Codax produces wine from the aromatic white Albariño grape. Similar to Viognier, the light and refreshing style, with a hint of sweetness, provides a refreshing alternative to Chardonnay.
Taste
Delicate peachy aromas with hints of spice, herbs and traces of sweet fruits, a fresh and crisp palate rounded by hints of honey, peaches and stone fruits, a medium body and with a floral finish.
Enjoy
Enjoy over the next two years as an apéritif or with grilled lobster.

    No flaws, massively overpriced

When I drunk it, I thought I had paid £5 for it an was disappointed. I was even more disappointed when I found out that I had paid £9! for it. No flaws but two to three euros would buy you a similar wine from Veneto region in Italy. OK with fish, I guess.

    Fond memories of Galicia

Can't understand the references to chardonnay, this is way better . Light and crisp and absolutely superb with shellfish tapas dishes. Yes a little expensive but all Spanish wines are way over priced in comparison to their homeland.

    Is it overpriced?

A superb wine in every way, but I bought it last week in a quality Palma restaurant last week at a cheaper price!!!

    Benchmark Albarino

Very good example of this increasingly fashionable, if not quite ubiquitous, grape. Cool, versatile and interesting. The Maritn Codax take on Albarino has a hint of spritz familiar to lovers of Portuguese vino verde. Personally I think it is more similar to a good French Sauvignon than Chardonnay, but what the heck. Give it a try for a bit of a treat. Lives up to it's billing and price tag.

    Martin Codax

This is a great bottle of wine to have in your cool box when visiting a Spanish beach. If you can't make it to a Spanish beach, a Welsh beach will do nicely.

  • The ideal alternative white wine

"When you are after something a wee bit different...tired of tropical Sauvignons, oaky and buttery Chardonnay? Here is the answer! Lifted and perfumed aroma of peaches, pears, blossom with hints of citrus and flint. Warm fruit flavours, almost a hint of sweetness, a touch of minerality and spice. The wine is of medium weight, balance of fruit and acidity, very refreshing and easy drinking."

  • "Hailing from the northwest of Spain, this is unsurprisingly an awesome match for seafood and shellfish dishes. This wine has lovely peach and stone fruit aromas, reminiscent of Viognier, with a streak of minerality running through it which adds a refreshing edge. Its a great option when you're bored of Viognier or Chardonnay, but fancy a well balanced, rounded wine with richness of flavour."
