Origin
The Chapoutier family have produced wines in the Rhône Valley since 1808. Michel Chapoutier, currently in charge, has combined tradition with a dynamic, creative approach and makes some of the best wines of the region.
Taste
A superb wine with rich aromas of dark fruit, earthy minerals and spice. Soft and round on the palate with smooth tannins, rich blackberry and cherry fruit, hints of liquorice and a substantial finish.
Enjoy
This wine can be enjoyed over the next several years and will superbly partner most rich meat dishes.

5 Stars? Why? Because it's exactly what it purports to be. A good Rhone at a cheap price - Chapoutier wouldn't put his name on less. You get more than your money's worth with this one, brambles and berries, rounded and long - it's great - for what it is. And let us not forget it's less than a tenner. It ain't Lafite but it's not pretending to be. And for those of you bleating - you try to find a better Rhone, easily available, for less than a tenner and I won't hold my breath waiting for your response.

    cooking wine (just)

IChapoutiers cheaper wines have deteriorated recently but I was given two bottles of his Hermitage which were fantastic,so decided to give this a try and bought 6 bottles. One mouthful was enough don,t think I could even cook with it.

    Getting worse

Not sure if this is getting worse or I'm getting pickier or both. Last couple of bottles have been too thin. I would expect to be able to open and drink but had to resort to letting this one breathe for a good while. I understand you get what you pay for but at a tenner a bottle you can easily find a decent Cotes pretty much anywhere. This is obviously a bad year/batch but nevertheless I'm going to have a break from this one for a while.

    Excellent Top quality 2011 Wine

As always Michael Chapoutier has produced an excellent wine. It has all the character requirements to improve over the next year or so I will probably buy some more when the price is right and lay it down.

Press Reviews

  • Taste great (2010 Vintage)

"Chapoutier is an organic and biodynamic producer and his wines are fantastic. Biodynamic wine production has an element of witchcraft to it with the grapes being harvested in tune with the cycles of the moon. I know this sounds strange, but the proof of the pudding is in the eating, and these wines taste great. (Pete Stewart, Sunday Herald, 3rd March 2013)"

  • "For those who can't live without a red at the Christmas table, meanwhile, you could do a lot worse than a generous, fruity côtes du rhône such as M Chapoutier's Côtes-du-Rhône Belleruche 2008."

  • "This has as much quality as the best Chapoutier reds at hundreds of pounds a bottle - the essence of the Rhône Valley in a glass."

  • "Try a taster with Chapoutier's delicious bold, herby, violet-scented 2009 Côtes du Rhône, Belleruche."
