Grape

Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc

Origin
The Max vineyards are named after the estate's founder, Don Maximiano Errazuriz, who made his first plantings in Aconcagua in 1870. This wine comes grapes grown mainly in the Max 2 and Max 5 plots, and is aged in French and American oak barrels for 12 months.
Taste
A bright ruby red wine, with a sweetly expressive nose of red fruit, cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg. Fine and plentiful tannins and juicy black fruit add up to a friendly and enjoyable palate.
Enjoy
Partners equally well with a rare steak as it does with pasta in a primavera sauce.

    Very good wine

I thought this wine is too popular across the shop shelves to be actually this good, so was positively surprised. Stands out from the Chilean crowd most certainly.

    Stonking Red - currently Great Value (-20%) @ 9.99

If you like your reds big with lots of fruit then this may be just the ticket. It's powerful 'ribena' for adults. Lots of the blackcurrent stuff and not without other characteristics too. Don't expect subtlety, but would be interesting to celler a bottle for 5 years and see what happens...

    Good example of Chilean cabernet

Jammy red fruit with a vanilla smokiness from the oak, smooth and very drinkable even this young. Decanting really opens up this wine. so its worth doing if possible, but it still drinks well straight out of the bottle if you can't. The alcohol is a little bit hot, but considering the price this is a good cabernet. It'll go really well with steaks on the barbecue over the summer.

Staff Reviews

  • A big, bold and classy Chilean

"Very concentrated and powerful aromas of sweet red fruits, cassis, vanilla and smoke. The flavours are very powerful, sweet red fruits, cassis, hints of earth and toasty oak lead to a very long and lingering finish. Very full bodied and intense, a wine to partner red meat as the evenings draw in!"
