Origin
Bodegas Marqués de Murrieta includes almost 300 hectares of vineyards in the southernmost part of La Rioja Alta. They are one of the few Spanish wineries who make their wines from 100% estate owned grapes. This allows them full control from the vineyard to the winemaking.
Taste
Aged in American oak casks, this full-bodied Rioja has complex aromas of black and red berry fruit and wood. Hints of spice and vanilla combine with soft tannins, giving way to a rich, sumptuous finish.
Enjoy
Decant this wine early for optimum enjoyment. The ultimate choice for fine roasts, cured ham and a range of cheeses.

Staff Reviews

  • A Great Gran Reserva!

"The Castillo Ygay is carefully and lovingly crafted by the long established and internationally renowned Murrieta estate. This full bodied red oozes blackberry, red cherry and plum fruit flavours. Cedar spice, black pepper, vanilla and silky tannins are the result of perfect oak integration making this a complex and rich medium-bodied red. With high levels of alcohol and acidity this is definitely a food wine, and pairs perfectly with tapas such as Manchego and Chorizo. Will certainly improve and soften with age. Decant for at least an hour before serving for a truly spectacular experience!"

Press Reviews

  • "The top line from the legendary Murrieta estate, one of Rioja's most traditional and largest. Although maturation time in barrel is shorter than it used to be, it's still long, but when there's the depth of flavour that there is here, the result is richly aromatic, assertive and complex. With its cedary, spicy freshness, this wine will sustain for a great many years. 94/100 "
