Has closed down, but will be glorious from 2017
With the greatest of respect to the various commentators, this is actually a top flight Amarone, rated 91/100 by Parker and 92/100 by Wine Spectator. Their tasting notes are below.
I suspect that the reason for the disappointment is that the Costasera 2007 has shut down (a characteristic of many top flight wines that are built to last), and will probably remain closed for another 3-5 years. From 2017 to 2030 or so, this wine will be glorious. Until then, cellar it properly.
If you don’t have a cellar, then anywhere cool and dark will do - the north wall of your garage, or cupboard under the stairs, if that’s on a cool side of your house. NOT the loft or garden shed, which both bake in the summer.
Parker tasting note.
“The 2007 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Costasera emerges from the glass with intricate layers of sweet, perfumed fruit. Flowers, berries and spices develop over time as this nuanced, textured Amarone takes shape. High-toned floral notes add brightness on the finish. The 2007 is one of the best Costaseras I remember tasting. The wine can be enjoyed today for its exuberant, generous fruit or cellared for at least a handful of years.”

2007 Masi Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Costasera
“A juicy Amarone that partners a silky texture with supple tannins, delivering dark flavors of brambly berry fruit and ripe black cherry, layered with smoke, vanilla, anise and clove. There's seamless integration, with a long finish that echoes the pure fruit flavor.”
