  • A bottle of Château Pichon-Longueville Baron 2004 Cru Classé, Pauillac - Majestic Wine

Château Pichon-Longueville Baron 2004 Cru Classé, Pauillac

The Cabernet content here, some 65%, asserts itself well though conversely there is a lush, openness on the mid-palate. This looks to have all the right components and balance to knit very well in time, and will be a fine wine in the vintage.

About buying Fine Wine at Majestic
Feel free to mix Fine Wines with “regular” wines to make up your order of 12 bottles (or more!) in total. "I have found that most of the 2004's I have tried, have been claret drinkers delights. This is no exception! Once you get past the wonderful deep purple colour of the wine, you are entranced by the beguiling nose of blackcurrants, licorice, eucalyptus, bitter chocolate and truffles. This monstrous wine is unbelievably soft and delicate in the mouth and offers real drinking pleasure. Drink it now, or stash it in the cellar for another 5 – 10 years."

"Regarded as one of the finest sites in Puligny Montrachet, 'Les Pucelles' neighbours the Grand Crus of Batard and Bienvenues. Similar in style to its big brothers, the 2007 'Les Pucelles' from Jomain is superb. A powerful nose of citrus peel, buttered toast, toasted hazelnuts and lemon curd. Gob-smackingly gorgeous, it is rich and powerful but maintains a wonderful elegance due to the fantastic mineral / citrus backbone. Sensational!!"

    Château Calon-Ségur 2003 Cru Classé, St-Estèphe

"Calon Segur has been one of my favourite wines for some time, and the 2003 is no exception. A more classically styled St-Estephe that offers up a rich nose of cassis, mulberries, and sweet summer fruits intermingled with delicious eucalyptus, peppery spice and subtle touches of oak. The palate is extraordinarily rich and round, and possesses great power and length. It’s easy to see why Robert Parker compares the 2003 to the almighty 1982!"

  • A bottle of Chassagne-Montrachet Blanc 2007 Blain-Gagnard - Majestic Wine

    Chassagne-Montrachet Blanc 2007 Blain-Gagnard

While not as long-lived or as prestigious as Puligny, these wines are often better value and are more approachable when young. A fine example from a very good, small grower.

"This is a serious Meursault that is the epitome of purity and freshness. Beautiful aromas of stone fruits, baked lemons, citrus fruits, melon, toast and minerals leap from the glass. The nose spills over onto the palate, and as the flavours intensify the wonderful tartness of citrus fruits pulls everything back together, providing wonderful texture and mouthfeel. Its freshness, purity and precision of aromas and flavours is extraordinary, and this is a wine that should provide drinking pleasure for at least another 6 – 8 years."

"A blend of 66% Rousanne and 34% Marsanne. The nose is quite nutty and spicy, with cinnamon and ginger spice complementing the wonderfully intense bouquet of cooked apples. More of the same is to come on the palate, with big intense fruit flavours being underpinned by the subtle touches of rose petals and soft lemony acidity."

"Big, sweet aromas of stewed rhubarb, cherries and raspberries intermixed with cardamom, star anise, black pepper and wood smoke provide a sensational bouquet. In the mouth the wine is big, ripe and fleshy, with wonderfully smooth tannins and gentle acidity. A top wine from a top grower, and should provide drinking pleasure for another 10 – 12 years."

  • A bottle of Le Soula Blanc 2006 Vin de Pays de Côtes de Catalanes - Majestic Wine

Le Soula Blanc 2006 Vin de Pays de Côtes de Catalanes

Using a blend of five grape varieties it is unsurprising that the palate is so complex with apricot, white musk and sesame characters. The result is a beautifully rich different style wine.

"A blend of 30% Sauvignon Blanc, 25% Marsanne/Rousanne, 25 % Grenache Blanc 10% Maccabeu and 10% Malvoisie. An intrigueing nose of Granny Smith apples, apricot blossom, kaffir lime leaves, minerals and a hint of root ginger. The palate delivers something quite unique and special, green apple skins, pineapples, grapefuit and almonds. With a subtle kick of oak on the finish, the wine is long and elegant in the mouth and unbelievably morish!"

"Saussignac is a small appelation in the south of France that produces delicious sweet white wines made from Semillon and Muscadelle grapes. The 2005 Clos d'Yvigne Saussignac is a sensational example of what can be achieved. An immense nose of poached apricots, honey, dessicated coconut, preserved Kumquats, cinnamon and a hint of nutmeg give way to a wonderfully sweet palate that delivers more of the same with awesome concentration and sweetness. Balanced by superb acidity, the wine is sweet and luscious but remains clean and refreshing. A fantastic drop!"
