Chardonnay

Origin
Blended from 8 different parcels across the appellation, this wine gives an excellent representation of the 'terroir' of Puligny-Montrachet. The domaine was inherited from father Gerard Chavy 2004 and was split with brother Alain, who makes wine under his father's name.
Taste
Neither overtly fruity nor over-oaked, Jean-Louis Chavy's wines are extremely well balanced, emphasising the classic minerality of Puligny-Montrachet.
Enjoy
A model of finesse and elegance, drink with simply flavoured grilled white fish. Alternatively, drink this pure wine by itself.

    Why this is not special

Expecting minerals. Tastes more like a long island iced tea without too much coke. Oak - yes. And that's where my problem starts. Busy in the mouth - undeniably interesting - hints of hotel soap, tiny anise crystals and hope. But unless you take care to remember, can taste like a 7 quid aussie. Perhaps better off with a decent unkown, at the end of the day. And in the afternoon. And this is not just the Maj version - so many wannabees have chased this taste that the original now resembles a parody. Good wine. But only if you know what to expect. Otherwise, you'll run the risk of disappointment..

Press Reviews

  • "Impressive village-level (ie not Premier Cru) Puligny. Grilled hazelnuts and candied citrus peel on the nose and a rich but steely palate with crème fraîche, wheatmeal, honey and lemon peel flavours. Benchmark burgundian Chardonnay. Drink over the next four years. 92/100 "
