Specialist fine wine merchant Lay & Wheeler, a subsidiary of Majestic, offers an even broader range including en primeur, in-bond sales, storage and a fantastic Fine Wine Plan.

"A complex and racy nose of green fruits, apples, grapefruit and blood oranges jump out of the glass to present a refreshing and unexpectedly elegant and minerally bouquet. This is not archetypal Californian Chardonnay, but soft, sophisticated and fabulously complex. The richness of the fruit is complimented by a steely minerality and a genuine richness provided by the careful oak ageing and extended time on its lees."

"Wow! A sensational bouquet of sweet blueberries, cassis, espresso, cigar box, coal, licorice, roasted herbs and earth. In the mouth the wine is big, fleshy and very showy. Mocha, cassis and bitter chocolate dominate, with more subtle flavours of roasted herbs, mint and a hint of smoky bacon on the finish. Tannins are generous but soft and silky and partner well with the immense power of this wine. One word to describe this wine? Awesome! Definitely ready to drink now, but will reward those with the patience to cellar for another 10 years or so."

  • A bottle of Tignanello 2006 Antinori 75cl Bottles - Majestic Wine

    Tignanello 2006 Antinori 75cl Bottles

Long and lingering with hints of chocolate, coffee and marmalade in the aftertaste, beautifully handled tannin from the wine and wood blend make Tignanello a very complex, stylish and sophisticated wine.

"This is a wine that needs little introduction and if anything, manages to exceed its reputation. The nose is everything one might expect; big, powerful and ripe. Hints of espresso, violets and earth accompany the dominating aromas of cherries, bitter chocolate and dried fruit. The palate continues the theme and has wonderful structure and power. This vintage is remarkably approachable for such a young wine, soft and rounded with seductively gentle tannins. This is quintessential Tignanello, and absolutely lovely."

"A blend of Chardonnay and Grechetto and aged in French oak, Antinori's Cervaro is the benchmark for white wines of this style in the Umbria region. The 2007 Cervaro has a rich 'Burgundian' nose of vanilla, French toast, baked apples, peaches and cinnamon spice. The palate is exceptionally rich and textured, with stone fruits, creme brulee and sweet toasty oak. The finish is long and luscious, harmonised by palate cleansing acidity."

"An elegant and youthful nose of sweet cherries, raspberries, licorice, marzipan and with a wonderful medicinal quality. There is obvious sweetness and youthfulness in the mouth, with cherries, raspberries and bitter cocoa dominating the otherwise very traditional gamey and earthy palate. The tannins are firm and tight and provide wonderful structure to an otherwise young but stunning wine. It definitely needs time and will benefit from another 4 - 5 years in the cellar."

"A marvellous bouquet of peaches, cinnamon poached pears, white flowers, minerals, and a delicate whiff of gun smoke. Texturally beautiful, flavours of peaches and pears adorn the palate and marry wonderfully with the lovely minerality that provides such an extraordinary finish."

"A beguiling bouquet of pineapple, elderflower, blossom, lemons, bees wax, pears, minerals and a delicate hint of honey. Unbelievably fresh, both on the nose and in the mouth, the wine is rich and full bodied. Intesnse flavours of grilled lemons, lemongrass, pineapple and pear adorn the palate, with a fantastic smoky / flintiness emerging in the deliciously tart finish. Sensational! "

  • A bottle of Shafer Vineyards Chardonnay 2006 Red Shoulder Ranch - Majestic Wine

Shafer Vineyards Chardonnay 2006 Red Shoulder Ranch

..this offering reveals crisp, elegant, melony characteristics along with fresh fruit, good acidity, medium body, and plenty of tropical fruit and honeysuckle notes. Approximately 75% was barrel-fermented and 25% was aged in stainless steel, which gives the wine more crispness.' Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 88 points

"A fresh and inviting nose of apples, melons, tropical fruits, blossom, and with a delicate whiff of oak. Only 25% of this wine sees any oak, allowing the fruit to really be the star of the show. On the palate, the wine is elegant and very precise with tropical fruit flavours dominating the oak tinged palate. Wonderfully balanced and packed with loads of flavour, this stunning Chardonnay is refreshing and long in the mouth."

"A very delicate and precise nose of white flowers, peaches, toasted nuts, satsumas combine well with the aromas of toasty oak and a whiff of caramel. There is more punch in the mouth as flavours of melons, peaches, marmalade, toast, cinnamon, nutmeg provide a rich and creamy mouthfeel which is counterbalanced by a fantastic backbone of minerals and citrus. Lovely texture and finesse and a wonderful finish. Quite modern in style, but it remains true to its terroir."
