"This robust, full bodied Barolo has spent 2 years in oak giving it a great structure and the ability to stand the test of time. The bouquet is full and intense with classic notes of tar and roses. For rich red meat dishes, you need look no further."

"A cracking year for Barolo and this wine has an earthy complexity with hints of roses. The finish is very dry and tannin totally takes over the length. The quality is here but it will take a few years to unwind and express its full potential. Try again in five to six years. Score: 89/100 "

  • This is actually a good Barolo

I note the previous review and have to conclude that this must have been a bad bottle. We have personally twice stayed on the Fontanafredda estate, so we know how it should taste, so as long as the wine is left to breathe you can really appreciate the smooth tannin and full cherry flavour. It is by no means a “Barolo Classic” and a little over priced, especially if you just buy one, but still very enjoyable.

Thin and a bit nasty October 09

Very disappointing wine. True, I have always been disappointed by Barolos and this was just my latest attempt to find a decent one. But given that I like many other Italian wines, I can only suppose that this was just another poor Barolo. But at the price - and given the Majestic recommendation - surely it should be better than this. Thin, without flavour, as my wife noted, a hint of paint stripper on the nose. None of the complexity or even oak promised by the Majestic review. Dear, dear.

  • Rich and dangerously drinkable

Needs plenty of time to breathe, but this is a beautifully full example of the classic Piedmontese wine. Doesn't disappoint on any level, and with a discount it's well worth adding a couple of bottles to your order.
