Grape

Nero d'Avola

Origin
Nero d'Avola is Sicily's signature red wine, the grape itself having been named after the town of Avola in the far southwest of Sicily, where it has been grown for several hundred years.
Taste
An intense nose of red plums, cherry and mocha follows through to the palate. Lashings of black fruit, supple tannins, and a subtly Shiraz-like black pepper savoury touch.
Enjoy
Partner with lamb chops grilled with thyme and garlic.

    excellent value quaffable red

Southern Italy is often a source of good value wines that have distinctive flavours and styles, for very good prices. This Nero D'Avola from Sicily is a lovely easy drinking wine made in quite a light style, with soft cherry and plum fruit, and a touch of almond, good balancing acidity, soft tannins, and a smooth, rounded finish. A really good summer red, ideal for a barbecue, or perhaps a midweek family dinner al fresco. I had a glass with a simple tuna and tomato pasta dish, and it went very nicely.

    Excellent

Excellent value red wine somewhat similar to a Shiraz but lighter and more quaffable.

    Suprised and happy

After the first taste I was concerned, second taste got better and after that is was all plain sailing. Once you take the cost into account it is a cracking wine for the price. Nice with food and on it's own. I had bought it as party wine but I dont think so now.
